I read a post from someone who is a headhunter. The blogger said that the number one problem of contacting potential prospects is that they run to tell their boss that they were just contacted by a headhunter. I get frequent calls from headhunters at work and always welcome the opportunity to learn about what is happening in the marketplace. I am not looking for another opportunity right now but that is the best time to listen and learn. When you are out of a job and need to make a headhunter connection, it is more difficult. People who run to their boss to tell them about it are not top caliber people to begin with. How about a little professionalism and class?
The great football player Walter Payton never spiked the ball or did a touchdown dance after scoring. When asked why he replied,” I always act as if I have been there before.” So if you get called by a headhunter for the first time, act like you have been there before.
