Most reputable companies train their people to conduct interviews.  Most companies do it very well.  When I was a senior in college, some companies large and small participated in a ridiculous practice of doing goofy things to try to intimidate the interviewee.  For example, one company came to campus with a guy who would fake fall asleep in the middle of the interview just to see what you would do.  Another company had a guy who would put his feet on the desk to see what your reaction would be.  I managed to overcome these obstacles but told myself I would never want to work for these companies anyway.

My first job out of school was with Black & Decker.  The person who interviewed me for that job used a unique approach.  He made people feel comfortable, used a conversational tone (like a friend) and just got to know you.  No wonder why I took that job and that person who first interviewed me ending up being my mentor.  Go figure.
